As a buyer’s agent, and a recent homebuyer myself, I quickly realized how important it is to have a vision when shopping for real estate. Often times I take buyers to see a house that is a beautiful home with good bones, and they simply don’t like the smell in the living room, color of the office or the built-in cabinets over the fireplace. Just think how easy it could be to widen a doorway bringing natural light into a dark living room or to add barn doors for style and privacy! These are examples of things that could be so easily changed with minimal effort and cost.
Having an imagination is something that comes so easily to children, and it would benefit us all on our house hunts if we used it when picturing ourselves in a new home. You’ve heard it said a million times on episodes of House Hunters, Fixer Upper and Flip or Flop on HGTV – you just need to have “the vision”. Very few things in a house are permanent – most things can be changed to meet your idea of the perfect house. When you set out on your house hunting experience, be sure to tell your real estate sales agent what you imagine to be your dream home. It is our job to help you meet that goal by showing you homes with great potential and as close to your vision as we can get. Be open to possibilities and really listen to ideas that your realtor may throw out there. There aren’t many people who have seen more houses and design ideas (and flaws) than a real estate sales agent!
